Gateway English Assessments partners with schools and institutions worldwide to deliver English language proficiency exams.

The exams follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and test children during the first six to eight years of their own language learning.

Seven Levels

The seven Gateway English Assessments levels fall within the Basic and Intermediate levels of the CEFR framework, a framework that informs current approaches to teaching, learning, and assessing world languages. CEFR expands on the Communicative Teaching approach, recognizing the language user as a “social agent” with empowerment and autonomy. Gateway English Assessments aligns with the CEFR approach in promoting a “can do” perspective of language proficiency–and in fostering an expectation that language users express themselves in real-life situations of various natures.

Candidates who successfully complete Level 7 of Gateway English Assessments should proceed with the preparation of university entrance exams, such as IGCSE, TOEFL, and IELTS.
